The Southwest Elementary School is committed to providing the opportunity for each student to develop intellectually, socially, physically, and creatively by providing quality curriculum and instruction, which focuses on reading and mathematics.

The purpose of the school shall be to provide the opportunity and environment for children within Danville Community Consolidated School District 118 attending Southwest Elementary School to attain maximum educational achievement and personal success by focusing upon the basics of reading and mathematics.  The school will demand high performance of students and staff, encourage the use of innovative teaching methods, allow for the development and use of performance based alternative assessment, create new professional opportunities for staff, provide parents and pupils with expanded choices within District 118, and encourage parental involvement with the school.  Further, those programs and practices successful with Southwest Elementary School will be available for use in other elementary schools in District 118, Vermilion County, and Illinois.
