The Operations Department plays a critical role in supporting the core functions of the Danville School District by overseeing a wide range of services that ensure the safety, functionality, and well-being of our students, staff, and facilities. Its responsibilities span six key areas:
1. Safety and Security
The department manages all aspects of district-wide safety and security infrastructure, including:
- Surveillance camera systems
- Fire detection and suppression systems
- Intruder and panic alert systems
- Perimeter security and access control
- Weapons and vape detection technologies
- Visitor and vendor screening protocols
- District-wide radio and cellular communication systems and services
These systems and procedures are continuously evaluated and updated to meet evolving safety standards and to provide a secure learning environment.
2. Facility Paging, Audio, Lighting, and Performance-Support Systems
The Operations Department is responsible for the oversight, maintenance, and improvement of critical facility systems that support communication and events, including:
- Building paging and intercom systems
- Public address and emergency communication systems
- Auditorium and theater audio-visual systems
- Stage and event lighting systems
- Sound reinforcement and performance support systems
These systems ensure that the district's facilities can effectively support daily operations, safety communications, and school and community events.
3. Custodial Services
Our dedicated custodial services team is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of all district buildings. Their responsibilities include:
- Routine cleaning and sanitization
- Minor repairs and preventive maintenance
- Inventory management of cleaning supplies
- Coordination with Facilities Management to ensure compliance with health, safety, and appearance standards across all facilities
4. Warehouse Logistics and Operations
The Operations Department oversees the procurement and inventory management of district office and school supplies, along with custodial equipment and supplies. The warehouse team is responsible for:
- Intra-district deliveries
- Processing and distribution of U.S. mail
- Order fulfillment and delivery of school, office, and custodial supplies
- Supporting staff with intra-district building relocations
This centralized logistics hub ensures timely delivery of essential resources and supports the smooth operation of all district buildings.
5. Employee Benefits and Risk Management
The department administers a broad range of employee and retiree support programs, including:
- Health and dental insurance
- 403(b) retirement savings plans
- Retiree and COBRA services
- Workers’ Compensation claims processing and accident investigation
This includes ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and maintaining high standards for employee support and benefits services.
6. Real Estate and Facilities Acquisitions and Agreements
Operations leads the negotiation, facilitation, and management of:
- Real estate acquisitions
- Facility lease agreements
These efforts support the district's long-term planning and ensure that facility use aligns with strategic growth and community needs.
